Staff (quarterstaff), legendary

A tall, gnarled staff of ancient darkwood, its surface carved with thousands of tiny runes so fine they appear as flowing script only when candlelight catches them at the right angle. The wood itself seems to shift between deep brown and near-black depending on the light, as if the staff absorbs darkness around it. At its crown sits a fractured crystal orb — once whole, now held together by copper wire wound tight by its previous owner in a desperate repair during some long-forgotten battle. The crystal glows with a faint, cold blue-white inner light that pulses slowly, like breathing.
The base of the staff is capped with iron scorched black, and faint burn marks travel up the lower third of the shaft — marks that were there when Khadren first took it, and that no cleaning has ever removed.
It is warm to the touch, always, regardless of the temperature around it. Khadren has never figured out why.

"He taught me everything I know about power. And everything I know about why power must be refused."

While attuned, you have advantage on Arcana checks related to identifying spells, magical phenomena, or extraplanar entities While attuned, you can sense the presence of active magical auras within 10 feet of you without casting Detect Magic, though you gain no details about their nature

Once per Long Rest, when you cast a spell that forces one or more creatures to make a saving throw, you may activate The Master's Rebuke as part of the same action. When you do, the staff pulses with cold blue-white light and you choose one target of that spell. That target makes its saving throw with Disadvantage, as the echo of Marevath's own commanding will — now bound to the staff and loyal to its new bearer — bears down upon their mind.

Additionally, if that target fails the saving throw, you regain one expended 1st-level spell slot as the staff draws on the residual magical energy of the broken resistance.

Flavour: The crystal at the crown flares bright for just a moment — the same cold light Khadren saw in his master's eyes the night everything went wrong. Except now it listens to him.

Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
