Armor (shield), very rare (requires attunement by a Requires Attunement)

A heavy, iron-rimmed shield bearing a polished mirror of unnatural clarity. The surface is slightly warped, as though it reflects not just the body—but the soul beneath it. Faint fractures spiderweb beneath the surface, as if it has already endured something it was never meant to survive.

This shield was crafted for Gurvek in his final days—an attempt to turn aside the impossible dream-magic of Marko.

It did not save him.

But it almost did.

Base Properties

  • Functions as a +1 shield (+3 AC total).
  • While attuned, you gain:
    • Advantage on saving throws against spells that charm, sleep, or alter perception.

Mirror of Defiance (1/Day)

When you are targeted by a spell or magical effect that:

  • Requires an attack roll or
  • Forces you to make a saving throw

You may use your reaction to attempt to reflect it.

Make a Reflection Check:

  • Roll a d20 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus

The DC is based on the effect’s power:

Effect Level DC
Cantrip 10
1–3 13
4–6 16
7–8 19
9 22

On a Success

  • The effect is reflected back at the original caster as if they were the target.
  • You suffer no effect from the original spell.

On a Failure

  • You are affected as normal.
  • The mirror fractures.

Fracture of the Aegis

If the Reflection Check fails by 5 or more, or on a natural 1:

  • The mirror shatters completely.
  • The shield loses its magical properties and becomes a normal shield.
  • Until repaired, it cannot use Mirror of Defiance.

Strain of Divinity

Even on a success, reflecting great power is dangerous:

  • If reflecting a 7th-level or higher effect, roll a d6:
    • 1–2: The mirror fractures (feature unusable until repaired)
    • 3–6: The mirror holds

Repairing the Mirror

The shield can be restored through:

  • A ritual at a shrine of Gurvek
  • Or a master smith + 1,000 gp worth of rare materials
  • Or sacrificing vitality:
    • Permanently reduce max HP by 5 to restore the mirror instantly

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
