Weapon (rifle, automatic), rare

A versatile, hard-hitting automatic rifle from the pre-war military. Chambered in 5.56mm, this weapon excels at laying down suppressive fire and is highly customizable. It features a carrying handle, adjustable stock, and can switch between semi-automatic and full-automatic fire.

Full Auto. When you take the Attack action, you can choose to fire in a burst. Make up to three attacks with this weapon against the same target or different targets within 10 feet of each other. You can only use this feature once per turn. Each attack beyond the first imposes a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack rolls.

Controlled Burst (optional rule). Instead of full auto, you may fire a short 3-round burst as a single attack. This deals 3d8 piercing damage on a hit (roll damage once). You have disadvantage on this attack if the target is beyond 60 ft. or if you moved more than 10 ft. on your turn.

Reliable: On a natural 1, the weapon jams. Use a bonus action to clear the jam.

It’s up to you to decide whether a character has proficiency with a firearm. Characters in most D&D worlds wouldn’t have such proficiency. During their downtime, characters can use the training rules in the Player’s Handbook to acquire proficiency, assuming that they have enough ammunition to keep the weapons working while mastering their use.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage, Combat, Range, Two-Handed, Ammunition (Firearms), Burst Fire, Reload, Slow
