Weapon (rapier), artifact

The Awakened Sun Blade. A rapier whose hilt is wrapped in dark leather worn smooth by old hands, set with a single amber gem that holds a slow inner light. When drawn, the blade does not exist as steel — it ignites from the hilt outward as a beam of pure sunlight, the length and weight of a longsword, warm to the air around it. The light does not flicker. It hums faintly, two notes at once — a man's, and a woman's.

Blade of Radiance. While grasping the hilt, you can take a Bonus Action to cause a blade of pure radiance to spring into existence or make the blade disappear. While the blade exists, this magic weapon functions as a Longsword with the Finesse property. If you are proficient with Longswords or Shortswords, you are proficient with the Sun Blade.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals Radiant damage instead of Slashing damage. When you hit an Undead with it, that target takes an extra 1d8 Radiant damage.

Sunlight. The sword’s luminous blade emits Bright Light in a 15-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight. While the blade persists, you can take a Magic action to expand or reduce its radius of Bright Light and Dim Light by 5 feet each, to a maximum of 30 feet each or a minimum of 10 feet each.

The Awakened Sunsword (item upgrade)

The Sun Blade is now whole. Tatyana and Sergei are merged within it. The weapon's profile changes substantially.

Base Properties (retained): +2 longsword, finesse, 2d8 radiant damage, sheds bright sunlight in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet, vampires take double damage on hit.

Soul Communion (1/long rest, 1-hour ritual): The wielder spends an hour in meditation with the blade and contacts one of the merged souls — Tatyana for emotional or intuitive guidance, Sergei for tactical or martial knowledge. The wielder asks one yes-or-no question and receives a true answer, with the personality of the soul who responded.

Reverse Attunement: The Awakened Sun Blade does not require an attunement slot from the wielder. The blade attunes itself to whoever takes it up — but it must spend one hour getting acquainted with that person before its full powers function. During that first hour, the blade functions as a +2 rapier only — no Sun Blade properties, no sunlight, no Sunburst, no Communion. After the acquaintance hour, all properties are available.

Personal Recognition: Once acquainted, the blade cannot be used by anyone the current wielder hasn't granted access to. A thief can pick it up and swing it; it functions as a non-magical longsword in their hands. The acquaintance must be voluntary on the wielder's part. The blade knows the difference.

Inheritance: If the wielder dies, the blade falls to whoever they spiritually entrust it to in their final moments. Absent a chosen heir, it returns to the ruins of the Sacred Pool of Kresk to await it's new owner in privacy.

Proficiency with a Rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
