Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

A pair of dark, unnaturally heavy sunglasses made from black metal of unknown origin. The lenses appear completely opaque from the outside.
When worn, the world immediately drains of color. Everything becomes black and white.

The glasses reveal reality stripped of illusion, propaganda, enchantment, and lies. Most creatures cannot endure prolonged exposure to what they reveal.

No one knows who created the Wayfarer of Revalation. Legends claim they were forged by: paranoid prophets, exiled gods of truth, or ancient beings who wished mortals to see the world as it truly is. Most who study the glasses eventually disappear.

Instantaneous Attunement

The Wayfarer of Revalation do not follow normal attunement rules.

The moment a creature places the glasses over its eyes: attunement occurs instantly and automatically and requiring no rest or ritual.

Likewise, the attunement ends immediately when the glasses are removed.

Effects While Worn

While wearing the Wayfarer of Revalation:

  • You gain permanent True Sight out to 600 feet.
  • You automatically perceive:
    • illusions,
    • disguises,
    • magical camouflage,
    • polymorph effects,
    • shapechanging,
    • transmutation magic,
    • invisibility,
    • false appearances.

You always see the true physical form of: creatures, objects, structures, and magical effects.

A dragon disguised as a beggar still appears as a dragon.

  • secret glyphs,
  • encoded warnings,
  • hidden runes,
  • messages concealed beneath magic.

The DM is encouraged to add disturbing revelations frequently.

Uncomfortable Revelation

“The worst part is not discovering the lies.
The worst part is realizing how many people were happy believing them.”
