Armor (shield), artifact (requires attunement by a The relic attunes to one who meditates with it during a long rest)

Fashioned from the heartwood of the mythical Shield Tree, Aegis Arboris appears as a massive kite shield formed from living wood. Silver veins run throughout its surface like roots beneath the earth, and leaves of emerald crystal bloom across its face whenever danger approaches.

Unlike ordinary shields, Arbor Invicta is warm to the touch and slowly repairs any damage inflicted upon it.

While attuned to the shield, you gain the following benefits:

  • +3 Shield
  • Advantage on Strength saving throws.
  • Advantage on checks and saves against being moved, knocked prone, grappled, or restrained.
  • Resistance to Force damage.

Rooted Defender

As a Bonus Action, roots spread from the shield and anchor you to the earth.

For 1 minute:

  • Your speed becomes 0.
  • You cannot be forcibly moved.
  • You cannot be knocked prone.
  • You gain resistance to all damage.

This ability recharges on a Long Rest.

Guardian's Intercession

When a creature you can see within 30 feet is hit by an attack, you may use your Reaction to move up to your speed toward them.

If you end adjacent to that creature:

  • The attack targets you instead.
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to twice your level.

Uses equal to Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest.

Shield Tree Regeneration

At the start of each of your turns, if you have fewer than half your hit points remaining, regain 1d8+5 hit points.

This effect ceases if you take fire damage before the start of your next turn.

Rebounding Bastion

When a creature misses you with a melee attack while you are wielding Aegis Arboris, the shield lashes back with supernatural force.

The attacking creature takes 1d6 Force damage.

If the attack misses you by 5 or more, the damage increases to 1d8 Force damage.

Living Bastion

As an Action, plant Aegis Arboris into the ground.

For 1 minute, a 30-foot radius sanctuary grows around you.

Friendly creatures inside gain:

  • Half Cover (+2 AC)
  • Advantage on saving throws against spells
  • Resistance to Lightning damage
  • Resistance to Force damage

Enemies treat the area as Difficult Terrain.

Once used, this feature cannot be used again until the next dawn.

Heart of the Shield Tree

If you would be reduced to 0 hit points:

You instead drop to 1 hit point.

Massive roots erupt from the earth in a 30-foot radius.

Choose any number of creatures.

Chosen creatures gain:

6d10 Temporary Hit Points

Hostile creatures must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or become Restrained.

This ability can only be used once every 7 days.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
