Avalon — The Ever-Distant Utopia is not merely a scabbard. It is the crystallization of an unreachable paradise, a Noble Phantasm that exists simultaneously in the world of men and in the realm of the Faeries — a place beyond suffering, beyond time, beyond death itself. Forged as the sheath of Excalibur, the Sword of Promised Victory, Avalon is the other half of the greatest Noble Phantasm in existence: while Excalibur embodies the hope of humanity given form, Avalon embodies the place that hope was always meant to reach.
It was Avalon, kept hidden within the body of its true bearer — the King of Knights, Artoria Pendragon — that made her effectively immortal throughout her reign. The scabbard, once separated from her, stripped away that immortality and set in motion the fall of Camelot. In Fate/Zero, the recovery of Avalon was a critical thread running through the Holy Grail War; it was the unseen presence that kept a young man alive against impossible odds, the scabbard waiting for the king whose sword it truly belonged to.
When Avalon’s True Name is fully invoked, it does not merely defend — it removes the bearer entirely from the world. The utopia unfolds around them like a door to a realm where no blade, spell, curse, or conceptual attack can follow. Even the infinite storm of traced blades within the Reality Marble known as Unlimited Blade Works cannot reach one sheltered within Avalon; the Ever-Distant Utopia exists beyond such bounded fields, a domain that rejects all interference from mortal magecraft.
Legendary Wondrous Item (Scabbard), Artifact (Requires Attunement)
While attuned to Avalon, you gain the following benefits:
• You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks.
• You gain a +2 bonus to all saving throws.
• You are immune to disease and the poisoned condition.
• At the start of each of your turns, you regain 10 hit points if you have at least 1 hit point remaining.
• Your hit point maximum increases by 20.
• You do not age and cannot be aged magically. You do not suffer the effects of aging.
• You have advantage on saving throws against spells and effects that conjure, animate, or manipulate weapons — Avalon’s origin transcends all bounded fields of mortal magecraft, including Unlimited Blade Works.
Golden Rule — Body of the King. While you carry Avalon, you cannot die of old age. You automatically stabilize when reduced to 0 hit points due to damage, and make death saving throws with advantage. Once per long rest, when you would be reduced to 0 hit points, you are instead reduced to 1 hit point.
Scabbard’s Blessing. While Avalon is on your person, any magical healing you receive is doubled. This reflects the scabbard’s nature as the source of the King of Knights’ near-immortality during her reign.
Two Halves of One Legend. Avalon and the sacred blade Excalibur — Sword of Promised Victory are two halves of a single Noble Phantasm. While a creature attuned to Excalibur is within 30 feet of you, your hit point regeneration at the start of each turn increases to 20, and Excalibur’s True Name release deals maximum damage on the first die — for when sword and scabbard are reunited, the Age of the King of Knights briefly returns to the world.
A-Rank Noble Phantasm: Avalon — The Ever-Distant Utopia (Recharge 5–6). As a reaction to taking damage, or as an action on your turn, you speak Avalon’s True Name and open a rift to the eternal realm. Until the start of your next turn, you and up to five willing creatures of your choice within 30 feet are sheltered within the Ever-Distant Utopia: you are removed from the physical plane entirely. You cannot take damage, cannot be targeted by spells or effects, cannot be seen, and are immune to all conditions. You cannot take actions or reactions while in this state. At the start of your next turn, you and all sheltered creatures reappear in the same relative positions (or the nearest unoccupied spaces), and each creature that was sheltered regains hit points equal to one-fifth of their hit point maximum.
Even the Unlimited Blade Works Reality Marble cannot breach this defense — the Ever-Distant Utopia exists outside the bounded field of all mortal magecraft, and no traced or projected Noble Phantasm can follow you there. Once you use this feature, it cannot be used again until the next dawn.
Notes: Bonus: Saving Throws, Resistance: Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks, Requires attunement by a creature of good alignment who bears a bond of protection. Avalon recognizes its rightful bearer not by title, but by the same contract of sacrifice sealed between the King of Knights and the spirit of the world. A creature attuned to Excalibur — Sword of Promised Victory automatically succeeds on the attunement check for Avalon, for sword and scabbard were always meant to be reunited.
