Agrius Metamorphosis — Boar of Divine Punishment is the pelt of the Calydonian Boar, the great Phantasmal Beast sent by Artemis herself to punish the kingdom of Calydon for the king’s impiety. In the age of heroes, a host of Greece’s greatest warriors set out to slay it, but it was Atalanta, the huntress of the forests, who drew first blood with a single arrow shot before any other blade or spear could find its mark. The kill went to Meleager, but the prize of the hunt — the boar’s immense, bristling hide — was given to Atalanta, for she had earned it.
The pelt is not merely a trophy. In the world of magecraft and Noble Phantasms, it is a cursed artifact saturated with the divine wrath of Artemis and the ferocious, world-shaking power of the Phantasmal Beast itself. When worn, the pelt does not simply protect — it transforms. The bearer ceases to be merely mortal and becomes something closer to the beast: a Monstrous Being, fiercer and faster and more savage than any natural creature, fueled by the raw punishment of a goddess. The price of this power is the bearer’s reason. The beast’s rage seeps in with the warmth of the pelt, and what remains is ferocity — pure, unstoppable, and turned toward destruction.
In Fate/Apocrypha, Atalanta could don this pelt to unleash her Alter state, sealing her Noble Phantasm Tauropolos in exchange for parameters rising to near-Berserker rank, A-Rank Mad Enhancement, A-Rank Shapeshift, and the ability to transform the hide into wings or fuse it with her bow to fire arrows of pure mana. The pelt can be used by any bearer with sufficient will — it does not care for class, profession, or lineage. It cares only for the beast within.
Legendary Wondrous Item (Pelt), Artifact (Requires Attunement)
Passive — While the pelt is worn but the Metamorphosis is not active, you gain the following benefits:
• Your Armor Class equals 13 + your Constitution modifier while you are not wearing armor (the pelt is a natural defense).
• You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
• You can move through nonmagical difficult terrain without spending extra movement.
• Creatures have disadvantage on the first attack roll they make against you in each combat, as the divine presence of the pelt unsettles living minds.
Agrius Metamorphosis — Boar of Divine Punishment (1/Day). As a bonus action, you speak the pelt’s true name and surrender yourself to its power. For the next hour, you enter the Metamorphosis state and gain the following:
• Your Strength score becomes 24 and your Dexterity score becomes 22 if they are not already higher.
• You gain 30 temporary hit points at the start of each of your turns.
• Your speed increases by 20 feet, and you gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.
• You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks.
• You gain immunity to the frightened and charmed conditions.
• Your unarmed strikes deal 2d8 + your Strength modifier piercing damage on a hit, as the pelt’s bristles and divine weight are channeled through your body.
• All damage you deal increases by 1d8 (your strikes carry the force of the Calydonian Boar itself).
• Shapeshift — The pelt transforms to suit any environment. You can choose one of the following at the start of each of your turns: gain a fly speed of 60 feet (the pelt becomes wings), or gain a swim speed of 60 feet and water-breathing, or your unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d8 lightning damage (the pelt fuses with your weapon and channels Artemis’s divine lightning for ranged attackers).
Mad Enhancement — Curse of the Beast. While in Metamorphosis, the beast’s madness seeps into your mind. At the start of each of your turns in Metamorphosis, you must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the DM controls your actions for that turn as if you had rolled on the Wild Magic table — you may attack any creature you can see, including allies, prioritizing the nearest living target. You may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of your turns. Even on a success, you have disadvantage on all Intelligence-based checks and saving throws while in Metamorphosis.
Tauropolos Sealed. While in Metamorphosis, if you also carry Tauropolos — Bow of Heaven, the Boar-Killer, its magical properties are suppressed — you cannot invoke its True Name or activate its Divine Core feature. The pelt and the bow are two sides of the same soul, and only one can dominate at a time. When the Metamorphosis ends, Tauropolos’ properties are restored.
End of the Hunt. When the Metamorphosis duration ends or you choose to end it early (as a bonus action), you must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, you gain one level of exhaustion and your Strength and Dexterity scores are reduced by 4 (minimum 1) until you finish a long rest, as the beast’s power tears back out of you. On a successful save, you gain one level of exhaustion only. This reflects the canon danger of Agrius Metamorphosis — a Noble Phantasm that is described as likely to result in the wielder’s self-destruction if used carelessly.
Pelt of the Hunt’s Winner. The pelt remembers who earned it. If you are also attuned to Tauropolos — Bow of Heaven, the Boar-Killer, the DC for the Mad Enhancement saving throw is reduced to 14, and the End of the Hunt Constitution saving throw DC is reduced to 16 — Atalanta’s spirit, still present in both Noble Phantasms, steadies the bearer’s mind against the worst of the curse.
Notes: Resistance: Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks, Bonus: Armor Class, Requires attunement by any creature. The Pelt of the Calydonian Boar does not choose its bearer by class or calling — it chooses by ferocity of spirit and willingness to surrender reason for power. Any creature that dons it may attune, but only those who can endure the maddening presence of a divine beast without being destroyed by it will survive long enough to master it.
