Aegis Disc

Artifact

Forged from a single seamless piece of enchanted alloy, this perfectly balanced circular shield is as elegant as it is deadly. Its polished face bears intricate geometric patterns that shimmer faintly when struck by light, while its reinforced rim is designed to absorb impacts without losing momentum. Despite its solid construction, it feels remarkably light in the hand, responding almost instinctively to its wielder's movements.

While wielding the Aegis Disc, you gain a +3 bonus to AC. The shield is a magical weapon and grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

You are proficient with the Aegis Disc. It can be used as a shield, a melee weapon, or a thrown weapon.

Weapon Statistics

  • Damage: 2d8 bludgeoning
  • Properties: Thrown (60/180), Versatile (2d10)
  • Magic Bonus: +3 to attack and damage rolls.

Returning Throw

Immediately after making a ranged attack with the Aegis Disc, it magically returns to your hand after the attack resolves, whether it hits or misses. This return ignores intervening obstacles and cannot be prevented except by an artifact or deity. If both of your hands are occupied, the shield hovers in your space until you have a free hand.

Ricochet

When you make a ranged attack with the Aegis Disc, it can rebound between enemies.

After hitting a creature, you may immediately make another ranged attack against a different creature within 30 feet of the previous target. On a hit, the target takes the shield's normal damage.

The shield can ricochet up to five additional times, targeting a different creature with each attack. A creature can only be targeted once per throw.

You can use this property a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Unyielding Guard

While wielding the Aegis Disc:

  • You have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws.
  • You cannot be unwillingly knocked prone or disarmed.
  • When a creature you can see within 30 feet is hit by an attack, you may use your reaction to hurl the shield between them and the attacker, granting the target +5 AC against that attack, potentially causing it to miss. The shield immediately returns to you after the attack is resolved.

Crushing Impact

Once on each of your turns, when the Aegis Disc hits a creature, it deals an additional 2d8 force damage.

If the attack is a critical hit, the target must succeed on a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Bastion of the Eternal

Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you awaken the full power of the Aegis Disc for 1 minute.

While awakened:

  • Your movement speed increases by 20 feet.
  • The Aegis Disc's attacks deal an additional 2d8 radiant damage.
  • Whenever you use Ricochet, every successful hit grants you 10 temporary hit points (maximum 30 at one time).
  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, as well as radiant and necrotic damage.
  • You cannot be moved against your will.
  • The shield emits bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet.

The Aegis Disc is the embodiment of steadfast resolve, allowing its bearer to stand unbroken against overwhelming odds while striking foes with relentless precision. In the hands of a worthy champion, it becomes an unyielding bulwark that protects allies as effortlessly as it devastates enemies.
