This vessel can appear in many forms—an ornate crystal sarcophagus, a rune-etched funerary urn, a salt-water-filled crystal cyst, a mud-lined earthen pod, a coffin of blackened adamantine, a living wooden chrysalis, or any other sealable container traditionally used with the clone spell. Whatever its outward appearance, the Adaptive Reliquary is always exquisitely crafted and faintly luminous with contained life-force.
Properties
While you are attuned to the Adaptive Reliquary, you can cast the clone spell at will. The only material component required is at least 1 cubic inch of flesh from the creature to be cloned (which the spell consumes as normal). No diamond and no expensive nonmagical vessel are needed. The Adaptive Reliquary itself serves as the vessel.
The Reliquary automatically reshapes its size, internal volume, and external form to perfectly accommodate a clone of any size category (Tiny through Gargantuan). It always possesses a lid, door, hatch, or other sealable entryway appropriate to its current shape.
The Reliquary can contain only one clone at a time. If you attempt to cast clone while a clone is already inside, the spell fails.
The Seal
Once a clone begins to form inside the Reliquary, the vessel seals itself shut. The seal remains unbroken until one of the following occurs:
- The clone gains sentience and becomes a living creature (normally when the original creature’s soul transfers into it upon the original’s death), at which point the seal opens of its own accord so the awakened clone may exit.
- You (the attuned creature who created the clone) choose to open the seal.
While the Reliquary remains sealed, the clone inside is completely immune to all damage, conditions, and effects of any kind. Nothing short of a wish spell or divine intervention can harm, extract, scry upon, or otherwise interact with the clone. The Reliquary itself is likewise immune to all damage and effects while sealed with a clone inside.
When the seal finally opens (whether by the clone’s awakening or by your deliberate choice), the Adaptive Reliquary returns to its previous size and form, ready to be used again once emptied.
