This item provides magical benefits when paired with a spellbook that you can use to prepare and/or cast spells. This can affect a wizard spellbook or a spellbook provided by another class or an artifact. At the end of a long rest and/or when you prepare your spells from this spellbook, you can choose a spell contained in the spellbook and put the bookmark on its page. As long as the bookmark remains on this page and you have your spellbook on you, you gain a benefit based on the chosen spell’s school of magic.
In addition, if the chosen spell is of 5th level or lower, you can cast it without expending a spell slot. You use its normal casting time if it is a ritual spell. To use this property, you remove the bookmark from the spellbook, acting like a parchment. Once you have done so, you cannot cast this spell in this way again until the next dawn, and you lose the benefits provided by the bookmark until you finish a long rest. A person can only benefit from one bookmark at a time.
| School | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Abjuration | You gain a +1 bonus to your AC. |
| Conjuration | You can use your movement to teleport instead of walking. Every 1 foot travelled in this way costs you 2 feet of speed (ex: it costs 10ft to teleport 5ft.) |
| Divination | You gain a +2 bonus to your Initiative rolls as well as to your Passive Perception. |
| Enchantment | You gain advantage to save against the frightened and charmed conditions. |
| Evocation | When you inflict damage with a spell, you can choose to reroll up to 2 damage dice of your choice. |
| Illusion | You can make the spellbook invisible or change its appearance to another small item at will, and it appears as non-magical to divination magic. |
| Transmutation | You can breathe air and water and you get darkvision up to 120ft. |
| Necromancy | You have advantage to your death saving throws. Once per turn when you kill a living creature with a spell, you regain 1d6 hit points. |
