The Crozier
This is a staff of solid hickory, stained deep, heavily varnished, and careworn through years of dedicated use. Originally designed as a tool for managing livestock, it has been weighted and balanced into a formidable weapon in the hands of a trained guardian.
Many—though not all—shepherds tie a heavy bellwether's brass bell to the crook-end of their croziers. When shaken or struck, its deep, clear tone echoes across the green, allowing the wielder to call their flock to safety even when the herd's natural leader is not around to guide them. The brass bell has no mechanical effect in the hands of any character who is not a Paladin. While wielded by a Paladin, the crozier (through the brass bell) functions as a holy symbol, allowing it to be used as a spell-casting focus.
