A shield of silver-white metal, impossibly light despite its immense durability. A subtle image of a platinum dragon is worked into its face, its wings spread protectively around the shield's central boss.
Along the rim are five inlaid metal pearls representing the metallic dragon types: Gold • Silver • Bronze • Brass • Copper
The shield feels warm when held by one who intends to protect another, and grows cold when wielded with selfish intent.
Armor Class
While wielding the Aegis of the Platinum Guardian, you gain a +2 bonus to AC as normal for a magic shield.
Shield of the Faithful
While attuned to the Aegis:
-
You cannot be unwillingly disarmed of the shield.
-
The shield cannot be destroyed while you are conscious.
-
You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
-
The shield sheds dim silver light in a 5-foot radius whenever you or an ally within 15 feet is reduced to half their hit points or fewer. Additionally, while you or an ally within 15 feet is at or below half their hit points, you have advantage on saving throws.
Guardian's Intercession
When a creature you can see within 15 feet of you is hit by an attack, you may use your reaction to move up to 15 feet toward that creature.
If you end this movement within 5 feet of the creature, you become the target of the attack instead.
You must be able to move normally to use this ability. You cannot use it if you are incapacitated.
Once the attack is resolved, you may remain in the space you moved to.
Platinum Resolve
When you or an ally you can see within 15 feet of you fails a saving throw, you may use your reaction to invoke the Aegis.
Add your Wisdom modifier to the failed saving throw.
If this changes the result to a success, the saving throw succeeds.
You can use this property once per fight.
Charges
The Aegis of the Platinum Guardian has 3 charges. While it has at least 1 charge, you can use a bonus action to expend 1 charge to awaken the Aegis.
Wings of the Guardian
1 charge
For 1 minute, spectral platinum wings unfold from the shield and surround you in a faint silver radiance.
While the wings are active:
Protective Aura. You and friendly creatures within 15 feet of you gain a +2 bonus to saving throws.
Shared Strength. A friendly creature that enters the aura for the first time on a turn gains temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). A creature can gain these temporary hit points only once per turn, and it cannot gain them again until the start of its next turn. Additionally, a friendly creature that starts its turn within the aura at 0 hit points automatically succeeds on one death saving throw.
Platinum Resistance. You and friendly creatures within the aura have resistance to damage dealt by spells and magical effects.
Guardian's Light. The shield sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
The wings disappear early if you are incapacitated.
Charge Recovery
When the Aegis is first exposed to direct sunlight each day, flip a coin.
-
On heads, the shield regains 1 expended charge (up to its maximum of 3).
-
On tails, no charge is regained that day.
The Aegis can regain only 1 charge per day in this way.
Appearance
When dormant, the Aegis appears to be an exceptionally fine silver shield. The platinum dragon worked into its face is almost invisible unless viewed in bright light.
When its powers awaken, the dragon beneath the surface of the shield seems to stir, its form shifting as if alive within the metal. The platinum dragon’s wings unfurl in radiant light, extending beyond the shield’s edges in sweeping arcs of luminous energy.
When Guardian's Intercession is used, the dragon’s wings briefly flare outward toward the protected creature, forming a momentary barrier of radiant force.
When Platinum Resolve succeeds, a pulse of platinum light flashes between Kriv and the protected creature, briefly taking the shape of Bahamut’s sigil before fading.
When Wings of the Guardian is activated, the image of Bahamut’s wings manifests behind the user, vast and protective, enveloping all allies within the Aegis’s aura in a shared mantle of divine light.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
