Arrow of the Buried Wyrm (qty 1d4+1)
Weapon (arrow or bolt), very rare, requires attunement by Ranger or Fighter
When this ammunition hits a creature, it burrows into the wound and releases a pulse of petrified root magic. The target takes an extra 4d6 piercing damage, and the ground in a 10-foot radius around it becomes cracked with grasping roots until the end of your next turn. Until then, the area is difficult terrain for hostile creatures.
If the target is Large or larger, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or have its speed reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn. A flying creature that fails this saving throw falls if it is not hovering and is within 60 feet of the ground.
As a bonus action you can recall the arrow to your bow.
Dragon Interaction: If the target is a dragon, the extra damage increases to 6d6. On a failed saving throw, the ammunition’s buried root magic anchors the dragon to the terrain, preventing it from using its flying speed until the end of its next turn. If the dragon is in its lair, the roots briefly reveal hidden tunnels, treasure chambers, or collapsed passages within 60 feet at the DM’s discretion.
