Magic Armor. While holding this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.
Adjustable Form. As an action, you can change the shield’s form and size between Tiny (pocket-sized) and Small (oversized). This does not change its weight.
Hungry Latch. As a reaction, when a creature within 5 feet of you misses you, you can force the target to make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or become grappled by the shield (escape DC 18). You can only have one creature grappled this way. When you start your turn, while having a creature grappled this way, the target takes 7 (2d6) piercing damage.
Sentience. The aegis mimica is a sentient neutral item with an Intelligence of 6, a Wisdom of 13, and a Charisma of 8. It has hearing and darkvision out to 60 feet. The shield can communicate by speaking simple Common, usually sticking to one- or three-word-long replies.
Personality. The aegis mimica possesses a simple, protective instinct toward its bearer, whom it recognizes as its “wielder.” It has little understanding of nuance and tends to view unfamiliar creatures as potential threats. It often urges overbearing caution or direct aggression. While loyal, it can become restless, "subtly" encouraging its bearer to engage in conflict so it can fulfill its purpose.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Damage: Piercing, Grappled
