🌟 Argent's Last Step

Wondrous item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a special silver needle, Argent's Last Step is a magical memorial tattoo dedicated to Argent and the sacrifice he made for Tamerlin Magusbrand.

The tattoo stretches across Patch's back. Its centre depicts Argent standing before the Radiant Carnival of Wonders, surrounded by sweeping circus canvas, stars and radiant silver light. Parts of Argent's figure are deliberately blurred, as though he is already stepping from the mortal world into whatever waits beyond it.

The tattoo never remains completely still. Stars slowly shift across Patch's skin, circus banners move in an invisible breeze, and Argent's silhouette occasionally seems to turn.

Tattoo Attunement. To attune to the tattoo, Patch holds its special needle against their skin throughout the attunement process. When the attunement is complete, the needle dissolves into silver-black ink and spreads across their back to form the tattoo.

If Patch's attunement ends, the tattoo vanishes and the needle reappears in their space.

👻 Ghostly Form

The tattoo has 3 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dawn.

As a bonus action, Patch can expend 1 charge to become incorporeal until the end of their next turn.

While incorporeal:

  • Patch has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks.
  • Patch can't be grappled or restrained.
  • Patch can move through creatures and solid objects as though they were difficult terrain.
  • If Patch ends their turn inside a solid object, they take 1d10 force damage.
  • If Ghostly Form ends while Patch is inside a solid object, they are shunted to the nearest unoccupied space and take 1d10 force damage for every 5 feet travelled.

✦ Argent's Presence

When Patch activates Ghostly Form, the tattoo reacts first.

Argent's image opens its eyes.

Silver light spreads outward from the tattoo until Patch's entire body becomes translucent. Their clothing and equipment fade with them, their edges wavering like smoke beneath moonlight.

For those few seconds, Patch resembles a ghost walking between worlds.

And immediately behind them appears the faint silhouette of Argent.

He doesn't fight.

He doesn't speak.

He simply walks with Patch.

When Ghostly Form ends, Argent's silhouette disappears and the tattoo settles back against Patch's skin.

Patch knows it isn't truly Argent.

But sometimes, for those few seconds...

it's enough.
