Produced for officers, traveling dignitaries, scouts, duelists, naval personnel, and professional adventurers, it occupies the space between ceremonial sidearm and serious close-quarters weapon.

Unlike many magical daggers that rely upon poison, shadow, or spectacular enchantment, the Aokiku Tantō reflects the Tempered Chrysanthemum philosophy of controlled craftsmanship. Its magic enhances the qualities that make a dagger useful in the first place: speed, accuracy, balance, concealment, reliability, and the ability to strike precisely when an opening appears.

Description

The Aokiku Tantō possesses a long, narrow blade of blue-black tempered steel measuring approximately thirteen inches from guard to point. Tempered Precision

Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with the dagger, you may deal an additional:

1d4 Piercing damage

if one of the following is true:

• you had Advantage on the attack roll;
• the target has not yet taken a turn in the current combat;
• another hostile creature is within 5 feet of the target.

This additional damage represents the dagger's enchantment guiding the point toward vulnerable seams, exposed joints, and momentary openings.

1. Silent Draw

The scabbard and weapon are enchanted to work together.

Drawing or sheathing the Aokiku Tantō produces no audible sound unless you choose otherwise.

In addition:

• drawing the dagger never reveals your position through sound alone;
• you gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) checks made to conceal, draw, or manipulate the dagger unnoticed;
• creatures relying primarily on hearing do not automatically detect you merely because you draw the weapon.

First Petal

Once per Short or Long Rest, when you draw the dagger immediately before making an attack with it on the same turn, that attack gains Advantage.

If the attack hits, it deals an additional 1d6 damage of the weapon's normal type.

1. Petal-Step Guard

The Aokiku Tantō is balanced for rapid defensive redirection.

When a creature you can see makes a melee attack against you while you are holding the dagger, you may use your Reaction to gain a +2 bonus to AC against that attack.

You must choose to use this feature before you know whether the attack hits.

If the attack misses because of this bonus, you may move 5 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.

This movement does not provoke an Opportunity Attack from the triggering creature.

You can use Petal-Step Guard a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest.

1. Chrysanthemum Mark

The dagger can momentarily record the weakness revealed by a successful strike.

When you score a Critical Hit with the Aokiku Tantō, or when you hit a creature while you have Advantage, you may place a Chrysanthemum Mark upon that creature.

The mark lasts until the end of your next turn.

The next time you or an ally hits the marked creature before the effect ends, the attack deals an additional:

1d6 damage

of the same type as the triggering attack.

Once a creature has triggered a Chrysanthemum Mark, the mark ends.

You can place a Chrysanthemum Mark a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest.
