Asklepian

This staff of the python also functions as a rod of resurrection. The destruction of the staff frees Asclepius, a chaotic evil guardian naga, which appears in an unoccupied space within 10 feet of you. If Asclepius dies, its Rejuvenation trait causes it to revert to its staff form instead of returning it to life.

Sentience. Asklepian is a sentient, chaotic evil staff with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 19, and a Charisma of 18. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 60 feet.

The staff communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Abyssal and Common. Its voice emphasizes sibilants and seems to echo.

Personality. Asclepius was once a spirit naga, as spiteful and ambitious as the rest of its kind. When offered a wish, it demanded power over the lives of all the lesser creatures that it should come across. This resulted in its imprisonment within the staff, condemned to preserve those very same lives that it had wished to dominate.

Spending centuries trapped within the staff has done nothing other than magnify the naga's vitriol and cunning. Despite its immense pride, it wants its wielder to use it as often and as recklessly as possible, to the point of starting a conflict if its wielder is too passive. This is all towards the end goal of attaining its freedom, and it will be none too pleased when it discovers the cyclical nature of its new existence.
