Appearance: A central blue crystal eye, bisected by a bleeding crimson snake-slit iris, is coiled by two koi fish locked in eternal orbit: one azure blue with deep crimson runes traced down its spine, the other deep crimson with matching runes in azure blue. The koi seem to chase one another endlessly around the eye, never quite touching.
History: Forged in an age lost even to legend, the amulet is named for Saint Sollars the Twice-Born, a loremaster-paladin whose order held that true knowledge is spoken and heard, not merely inked and shelved. Oghma's clergy taught that the first word was spoken long before the first letter was carved, and the amulet remembers that order of things.
Properties
Twofold Tongue. While attuned to this amulet, you can speak and understand the spoken form of two languages of your choice (represented by the two koi). The amulet grants voice and ear only; it does not grant literacy. You cannot read or write in either language, and to your eyes, written script in these languages seems to faintly writhe and shift, resisting comprehension no matter how long you study it.
Shedding the Scale. You may perform a ritual over 1 hour to exchange one of your two known languages for a new one of your choice. During the ritual, the runes on one koi visibly fade and redraw themselves along the spine of the other, swapping colour as the amulet reallocates its knowledge. You cannot know more than two languages through the amulet at one time, and you cannot perform this ritual again until you finish a long rest.
