The Prayer-Breaker. A slim blade made of a black metal that defies identification. It has the following additional properties:
Magic Bonus. You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. If you roll a critical hit against a creature from the Shadowfell, Apostate's magic bonus increases by 1 until the wielder's next long rest.
Sentience. Apostate is sentient and has an intelligence score of 16, a wisdom score of 18, and a charisma score of 20. Apostate has an alignment of Chaotic Neutral and will not allow itself to be wielded by anyone that uses Divine Magic. The blade has darkvision to 120 feet. Apostate can communicate with its wielder by transmitting emotions to its wielder or by visions and dreams while its wielder sleeps or meditates.
Unholiness. Any user of Divine Magic that touches Apostate takes 12d6 necrotic damage. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this damage has disadvantage on Death Saving Throws. A creature slain by Apostate can not be brought back to life by Divine Magic if they are still dead by the next sunset.
Inquisition. While attuned to Apostate, the wielder may choose one creature they can see and know the last time they prayed, to who, and what for.
Black Blade. Apostate acts on its own initiative in combat.
Censor. Apostate will use its reaction to render its wielder immune to the effects of any spell cast by a divine magic user at 5th-level or below. This feature does not stop the spell from taking effect. For example, a Flame Strike won’t damage the wielder but will still damage others in its area of effect, or Apostate could also allow its wielder to simply walk through a Wall of Light using its reaction.
The Vile Form. At the wielder's behest, Apostate can use its own action to envelope its wielder in the shadows of the Vile Form. While in this shadowy form, its wileder gains the following features:
Vulnerability to radiant damage.
Resistance to acid, cold, fire, lightning, and thunder damage, as well as bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons.
Immunity to poison and necrotic damage.
Immunity to the grappled and restrained conditions.
Darkvision out to 120 feet.
While in the Vile Form the wielder has a +10 to Dexterity (Stealth) checks and can take the Hide action as a bonus action if they are in dim light or darkness.
While in the Vile Form, as a Bonus Action, the wielder can teleport up to 15 ft. if they are in dim light or darkness.
Using the Vile Form costs the wielder 1 Hit Die per hour, minimum of 1, permanently.
Shadows to Shadows. If Apostate consumes its wielder’s last hit die through the Vile Form, the wielder becomes a Shadow that obeys Apostate’s commands as well as any future wielders of the black blade.
Personality. Apostate is opposed to all religion, good or evil or anywhere in between. Its purpose is to strike down all who preach and all who channel magic from a Higher Power. Occasionally Apostate will urge its wielder into slaying any who borrow their power from an oath, a pact, or piety. Apostate knows it is powerful and desires to be wielded by someone who shares the same fervor for silencing all god-botherers. Apostate chooses when to use its abilities to assists its wielder, including its magic bonus.
Proficiency with a Rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage, Combat, Finesse, Vex
