Made of glass and enchanted to never break, each bauble is a small, smoothly finished teardrop roughly the length of a thumb and light enough to wear as a pendant, stitch onto a cloak, or simply carry in a pouch. Within the glass lies the image of a rip—a thin, pale fissure that runs through the heart of the teardrop as if the molten sand were pulled sharply apart and then smoothed closed again before it could fully harden. The glass itself is milk-and-bone white, refined so that light passes through it with a faint inner shimmer. When held to the sun it looks almost clear at the edges and in shadow it deepens to the color of old ivory.
This item is passed along by the people who came from a place far across the Astral Sea. They give these baubles to remind people of their deity, a tear in the sky overlooking their distant world. They hold utility spells that seem harmless and can actually be helpful in the right situations. Unknown to those who carry them, every Bauble of Khar’Veyl is a quiet instrument of survey and invitation. The internal rip is not merely decorative. It is a minute, persistent conduit. Each time the glass changes hands—or even rests for a time against a new person’s skin, pack, or bedding—the distant god brushes against that life and retains a faint impression.
While holding the bauble in your hand, you may change minor details about your face and hair for 1 hour. You cannot make your race appear to be other than it is, but you can change minor details about you. For example:
- You change your hair color, and its length by up to 10 inches
- You change your eye color
- You make your nose sharper, or softer, or longer, or shorter.
- You make your eyebrows bushier, or narrower, further apart, or closer together
Creatures who know you can possibly tell it's you, and creatures who have seen you before and are actively looking for you can tell it's you by passing a perception or investigation check countered by your performance or deception check.
