This heavy blue-black shield is made from the shell of the legendary Chultan Tortle hero Poqwat. It is said this was his dying wish from the goddess Eldath herself, to become a shield to be passed down his family line. To Inspire courage and curiosity in all who his descendants who attune to the shield. Waves, whirlpools and small runes adorn it's surface in the Eldath fashion of the spiralling churning waters at the base of a waterfall. The back of the shield has a large concave interior, unsurprisingly like the interior shape of a tortle's shell, which is large enough for a backpack, a couple sacks, a coil of rope, a waterskin and some small extras. It is magically webbed to the back of the shield, and remains safely secured when the shield is used, yet items are easily removed by the shield's owner. Others have to succeed on a DC15 STR check to remove an item.
Webbed cavity: A single large handle near the centre of the shield can be gripped with both hands, which easily allows for it to be used while using the ability Shell Defense, thus keeping both the armor bonus from the shield (+3) and the +4 bonus to AC from the Shell Defense ability. Crenellations along the sides and top of the back of the shield allow single handed long-poled weapons (staves, spears and the like) to be clipped securely into place, freeing up both hands to grip the handle. It's a free action to stow or retrieve a weapon in this fashion.
Unwieldy and heavy: Due to the size and weight of the shield (24lbs, four times more than a regular shield), a minimum of 16 strength is required to wield it.
AC bonus: While attuned to this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC (+2).
Heirloom's direction: If you lose Poqwat's Shell, and if you are still attuned to it, you may meditate for 10 minutes within one's own shell (in Shell Defense) once at dawn (spending a charge) to divine its direction, as long as it is on the same plane of existence. If the shield is in motion, you know the direction of its movement. The charge refreshes at dawn the following day.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, member of Poqwat's bloodline; Tortle race, Combat, Warding
