Atonement

Armor (Breastplate), Legendary

You gain a +2 bonus to AC while wearing this armor.

Atonement is a masterpiece of adaptive craftsmanship. Its interlocking plates continuously respond to the movements and intentions of its wearer, while intricate veins of silver, gold, and bronze illuminate across its surface.

The armor possesses two distinct configurations: Assault Form and Guard Form.

Adaptive Configuration

Magical — Passive — Unlimited Use

Atonement is always in one of its two forms: Assault Form or Guard Form.

Outside Combat: The wearer may freely switch between the two forms at any time, without expending an Action, Bonus Action, Reaction, or other resource.

During Combat: At the beginning of each of the wearer's turns, they may choose either Assault Form or Guard Form without expending any action or resource.

The chosen form remains active until the wearer changes it.

Neither form has a duration limit or a limited number of uses.

Assault Form

Magical — Passive

The armor's plates retract slightly around the chest and shoulders, while the joints and connecting segments loosen to allow greater freedom of movement.

The silver, gold, and bronze veins glow as the armor shifts into an aggressive configuration.

While Assault Form is active, the wearer gains the following benefits:

  • Enhanced Mobility: The wearer's Speed increases by 10 feet.

  • Empowered Strike: If the first melee weapon attack the wearer makes on each of their turns hits, that attack deals an additional 1d8 Force damage.

If the first melee weapon attack misses, this additional damage cannot be applied to another attack during that turn.

Guard Form

Magical — Passive

The armor's plates overlap and lock into place, creating reinforced layers of protection around the shoulders, chest, and neck.

The metallic veins intensify as the armor prioritizes defense over mobility.

While Guard Form is active, the wearer gains the following benefits:

  • Reinforced Defense: The wearer gains an additional +2 bonus to AC. This bonus is applied on top of the armor's existing +2 magical enhancement.

  • Restricted Mobility: The wearer's Speed decreases by 10 feet.

Form Restrictions

  • Only one form can be active at a time.

  • Atonement has no neutral or inactive configuration while worn.

  • Outside combat, the wearer may switch forms freely without expending an Action, Bonus Action, Reaction, or other resource.

  • During combat, the wearer may switch forms only at the beginning of their own turn.

  • Switching forms requires no Action, Bonus Action, or Reaction.

  • All benefits and penalties of the previous form immediately end when switching to the other form.

  • Neither form has a duration limit or a limited number of uses.

    Horizon Break

    Innate Legendary Armor Property

Atonement allows its wearer to transcend physical distance through an instantaneous displacement of space.

Horizon Break. While wearing Atonement, you can use an Action to teleport to an unoccupied space that you can see within 500 feet of yourself.

You arrive instantly at the chosen destination, carrying your worn and carried equipment.

    Restrictions

    • The destination must be visible to you.

    • The destination must be within 500 feet.

    • The destination must be unoccupied and able to accommodate you.

    • You cannot transport another creature with this feature.

    • This property is not a spell and does not cast Dimension Door or any other spell.

    • It requires no spell slots, verbal components, somatic components, material components, or Concentration.

    • Teleporting does not grant an additional attack or any bonus damage.

Independent Armor Property. Horizon Break functions in both Assault Form and Guard Form. Activating it does not change the armor's current form, Armor Class, movement speed, or other form-specific properties.

Uses. Once you use Horizon Break, you cannot use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

This armor consists of a fitted metal chest piece worn with supple leather. Although it leaves the legs and arms relatively unprotected, this armor provides good protection for the wearer's vital organs while leaving the wearer relatively unencumbered.
