When old elvish crafting master Zenmenor came to the tribal wilderness and met among others members of the Lusu'u tribe. He stayed with them for a while and learned of their specialty, shrinking heads. At this point in his life Zenmenor did have all his marbles but some played keep-away with some rational decision making skills. As he was their guest he developed the alarm on a stick which consists of a normal stick somewhat sharpened on one end and an animated shrunken head on the other. He then infused the alarm spell into it among others. Even for the Lusu'u this item took a little getting used to but was very appreciated after it's function was made clear. When he left after a good while he had learned the head-shrinking skill and made many more after that. He even made them with different types of heads, not in the least because of the dismay of the people he showed the human version too. That's why you can sometimes find version with barn animal heads making their corresponding sounds when the alarm spell activates. When Zenmenor actually lost some of his marbles he was making versions with minor demon heads talking like a high-priced manservant or using a human head but let it bark like a dog.
There are many versions but this is one of the original ones. It is a basic unworked stick as if just picked up randomly sporting one sharp end and a shrunken and animated human head on the other end. Also this version is just plain rude and very impatient which shows in his wording when alarm goes off. It will say anything to get you to respond quickly. Dm's discretion.
It works he same as the alarm spell but here the shrunken head comes to life and starts screaming in the mind of every friendly character in a 30 foot range. This lasts until everyone in range is ready and able or a command word is spoken by the owner. Then it shuts up and returns to an inanimate state. It works once a day and regains the charge every day.
Prices for this type of item are truly all over the place. Some tradesmen can't wait to get rid of them maybe bought on a whim while others can not emphasize enough just how rare this particular version is and how much any collector would pay to get it.
