Weapon (greatsword), artifact (requires attunement by a Requires five (5) powerful souls and the soul of a dragon (any type will do) to be consumed by this sword in order to gain its benefits. )

"In an ancient time, long before the histories could record, there was a warrior who fought his way from the bottom of the Abyss and accidentally arrived back into the Material Plane. The sword had slain a great many enemies and was imbued with an amalgamation of magics and souls. The warrior's own soul, strong with the will to become stronger and full of determination, empowered the sword. With every battle, the warrior became stronger and stronger. Where he was weak, he became stronger. Nothing could stop him, not even the Gods. One day, the warrior felt his time adventuring was over and sold his sword to a king at the time who was a dear friend to the warrior. With that, the sword has been passed about until it was lost in some unnamed battle, where it was never seen again."

- Tales from the Ancients"

This greatsword was used in a long forgotten time by a warrior whose strength, will, and determination was absolute. Despite its supposed extensive combat history, there isn't a single sign of damage.

Until the soul requirement is met for attunement, this weapon is a regular greatsword. Also, this greatsword has the following restrictions:

  • Minions, undead, and constructs do not count toward the soul count.
  • Only mortals can wield this weapon. (A mortal who is able to absorb souls is allowed to wield this weapon.)
  • Undead and constructs cannot attune to this weapon.
  • If someone is building up the collection of souls and someone else kills a target with this weapon, the progress is reduced to zero.

Once the soul requirement is met, you gain the following benefits:

  • The sword gives a +4 to attack and damage rolls with this magic weapon
  • You have advantage on Wisdom saving throws. When bloodied, you gain advantage on Wisdom and Constitution saving throws
  • When you bloody an enemy, you gain temporary hit points equal to (your player level/2 + your Constitution Mod)
  • When you are knocked to 0 hit points or beyond, you may spend a death saving throw to spend hit dice up to you Constitution Mod and regain that in health. If knocked to 0 or beyond again after using this feature, roll your next death saving throw with disadvantage. You may only use this feature once every long rest.

Upon the defeat of an enemy, the sword siphons the creature's soul and adds its strength to the wielder. When the wielder of this sword kills an enemy, they may choose one of the following:

  • Pick one of the target's ability score, if it is higher than yours, improve your own ability score by one.
  • If the target had a class, pick an ability or class feature for every 5 levels it achieved.
  • If the target could fly, swim, climb, or burrow you gain the ability to do so (at a sixth of its original speed) only if the ability to do so is greater than yours
  • You gain one (1) of  the target's immunities and resistances.
  • If the target had blind sense, tremor sense or true sight you gain that ability. If you have one of these senses already, you add 5 ft. to that sense
  • You gain the ability to speak a language the target spoke
  • You absorb their magical ability, learning all spells they knew up to level 3 and gaining spell slots equal to a quarter of their original slots (rounded down)
  • If the target has more maximum health than you, you can add half of the target's Constitution to your max health.

This sword is life linked to the soul of the wielder once it's attuned to them. The sword also comes with these effects:

  • If the wielder dies, the sword returns to  appear like a regular greatsword. If someone else uses this weapon
  • If someone besides the attuned wielder uses the sword to attack, they roll with disadvantage.
  • When collecting souls, before becoming attuned to the weapon, whenever a target with a Powerful Soul is within 60 ft. of the current wielder, the sword begins to vibrate. After the current wielder is attuned, the sword vibrates when especially strong monsters are within 60 ft.
