Weapon (battleaxe), legendary (requires attunement by a An hour practicing music with her)

The Electric Lute Axe is a sentient Neutral-Good +1 Battleaxe that also does 1d6 lighting damage and can be used as a lute. Being sentient, she has the stats of Int 12, Wis 12, Cha 17, hearing and darkvision out to 120 ft, knows all languages that its bearer knows and can speak to them telepathically, as well as speak out loud with an electric crackling voice.

The Axe calls herself Ela, THE Ela to those it feels are disrespects her. She can be loud and boisterous, liking to rock out and have fun playing music, and while she wouldn’t say no to a good fight, what she likes most is being able to show off, and is always on the watch for a captive audience. She will shock anyone who tries to play her that isn’t a bard or doesn't have proficiency with Lutes using Shocking Grasp (which she can cast defensively as long as that person is touching her, at either 1 or 1d8 damage), and will try to get into the hands of a talented bard as quickly as possible.

Using Ela requires attunement (an hour practicing music with her), after which it is considered a bard weapon and can be used as a battle axe by bards that couldn’t normally use a battle axe, as well as as a Lute if the bard is not already proficient.

Bards gain +1 to Performance, as well as +1 dice to bardic inspiration and song of healing when using Ela.

Those attuned to Ela cannot be deafened or stunned and gain lighting and thunder resistance as long as she's on their person.

When Ela is being wielded, either as a battleaxe or a lute, sparks fly from both the axe and the wielder, although they are not powerful enough to do any harm to anyone, nor consistent enough to provide a suitable source of light.

Switching between using Ela as a battleaxe and a lute takes a bonus action, and Ela must be used as a lute in order to cast spells, with the exception of Shocking Grasp, which can be cast at any time she is on the caster's person.

Wielder gains the Shocking Grasp and Thunderclap cantrips in addition to any other cantrips they might already have. Shocking Grasp uses whichever spell modifier is higher, either Ela's (+5) or the bearer's. Thunderclap can only be cast when Ela is wielded as a lute, and uses Ela's DC (13) plus the wielder's performance bonus.

Ela has 10 charges (she regains 1d4 if played/practiced on during a short rest, and 1d6+4 after a long rest), which can be used to cast the following spells, and additional charges can be expelled to cast the spells at higher levels at 1 charge per level. These spells use Ela's spell modifier (+5) plus the wielder's performance bonus, and Ela's DC (13) plus the wielder's performance bonus.

  • Thunderwave, Witch Bolt – 1 Charge
  • Shatter – 2 Charges
  • Lightning Bolt – 3 Charges
  • Storm Sphere – 4 Charges
  • Destructive Wave – 5 Charges
  • Chain Lightning – 6 charges

Proficiency with a battleaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
