The Animus, forged with the calamitous material known as Shadowspec, has a graphite sheen to its single-edged blade that is tipped with brimstone that can cause punishing burns. It is another artifact created in Draedon's Forge, the forge that gave birth to nearly all the artifacts that the multiverse sees today.
To attune to the Animus, a creature must make a DC 18 CHA save. If the creature is good, the check has disadvantage. If the creature is evil, the check has advantage. If the check fails, the Animus strikes the wielder. If the creature still lives, then the creature can make another CHA save to attune to the Animus. If the check is successful, then the creature attunes to the Animus and no extra effects are taken.
Magic Weapon. A creature wielding the Animus that is attuned to it has a +3 to hit and deals random set values of damage that cannot be reduced by any means and ignores immunities. To determine damage, roll a d20. On a 1-5, it deals an extra 20 slashing damage. On a 6-10, it deals an extra 30 slashing damage. On a 11-14, it deals an extra 45 slashing damage. On a 15-17, it deals an extra 75 slashing damage. On a 18-19, it deals an extra 150 slashing damage, and on a 20, it deals an extra 250 slashing damage. In addition to this extra damage, the Animus deals an extra 22(4d10) fire damage on a hit, and the creature must make a DC 21 CON save or become inflicted with burning brimstone flames for 10 minutes. While burning, the creature takes 11(2d10) fire damage at the end of each turn. If this damage reduces the creature to 0 hit points, then the creature is reduced to ash and is destroyed. The creature can repeat the save on the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Random Properties. The Animus has the following random properties:
- 2 minor beneficial properties
- 2 minor detrimental properties
Max Animate Animus. A creature attuned to the Animus adds a d10 to initiative at the start of every combat and can make one attack with it as a bonus action.
Convey Hostility And Ill Feelings. A creature attuned to the Animus that makes a CHA(intimidation) check automatically succeeds if it is used to scare off or dissuade another creature. It also inflicts the frightened condition on that creature, unless the creature is immune.
Sentience. The Animus is a sentient chaotic evil weapon with an INT score of 15, a WIS score of 19, and a CHA score of 22. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 ft. The weapon communicates tepelathically with its wielder and understands Abyssal, Common, Deep speech, Elvish, Ignan, Infernal, and Undercommon.
Destroying The Animus. As it is a weapon forged by Draedon in his forge, it must be placed back into the forge and have Draedon or the wielder destroy the forge in order to destroy the Animus.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
