Armor (plate), legendary

Originally this armor was owned by Oathbreaker Paladins, those who called themselves Grave Knights, corrupted the very essence of Death in an attempt to achieve immortality. Sacrificing dozens of innocents and through unholy rituals these fallen protectors would imbue their very soul into the armor which they wore. While it was nearly impossible to destroy a Grave Knight several clerics sought to purge their corrupted armor by consecrating it upon hollowed ground. This one particular blasphemous set had been carved from stones used to mark the graves of holy priests and now worn by K'vara The Black Heart. K'vara was a Teifling Grave Knight in service to the Undying King and Lord of Whispers, Vecna. Saddled upon her Nightmare steed with her white hair set against her onyx black skin and plate, she had launched an relentless assault on the shores of Diamond Lake where droves of the undead slaughtered soldier and innocent alike in their conquest of the crystal city, Nibelosa. In a moment that would change the tides battle He'toth Hellreaver wove through the ranks of the mindless horde as if being guided by Kelemvor himself and slew K'vara on the pristine shores of the beach. Upon her death the army of undeath collapsed into dust, K'vara with them leaving but her armor behind. Before her body could reform in the armor He'toth brought the cursed object to the graveyard of Nibelosa where his son Howell, a long devout cleric of Kelemvor, purged the foul essence of K'vara's soul from the armor. Unexpectedly the armor did not fall to ash as both had anticipated but instead remained though changed. Where once a seemingly evil tool laid now rested a divine piece of armor used in balancing life and death, their deities symbol etched upon the breast over the heart.

This suit of plate has the appearance of highly polished black granite stone and the weight of mithril chain mail. The granite seems to suck in the very light around it, the scales of life and death are emblazoned upon the chest over the heart shaped by a sickly ethereal blue aura. On each plate of the scales is an empty socket where perhaps a gem or other item could be set in the future. Upon close inspection of the plate tiny words appear etched at each seem of the armor one moment reading a epitaph that may say  "Loved, Blessed Father and Provider" and the very next "Cast a cold eye on Life, on Death. Horseman, pass by!". You know not if this is your own future words upon the grave, that of a complete stranger or perhaps one sacrificed to make this suit.

This +1 Plate has the same restrictions as mithril chain but has both the appearance and AC of full plate.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
