Mithral is a light, flexible metal. If the armor normally imposes disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the mithral version of the armor doesn't. It extends the paladins aura's an additional 5 feet. In addition once per day the armor can be powered by the paladins smite ability defensively. By using a spell slot the paladin can spend his or her normal smite dice to reduce the damage of an incoming attack or spell. So a Third level spell slot would reduce the damage by 4d8.
Half plate consists of shaped metal plates that cover most of the wearer's body. It does not include leg protection beyond simple greaves that are attached with leather straps.
