Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)
This finely made brooch is constructed with resin coated flower petals and precious metal foil, giving it a clearly valuable appearance. When activated, the brooch magically changes shape before one's very eyes to match the floral source of the effect.
This brooch has 4 charges, and it regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. While wearing and attuned to it you may expend a number of charges to activate one of the effects from the Broche des Fleurs table. Whenever an effect of this wondrous item would require a spell save DC or spell attack roll, use your Charisma as the item's spellcasting modifier.
Broche des Fleurs
| Flower | Effect |
|---|---|
| Cypress | As an action you may expend 3 charges to cast the inflict wounds spell. |
| Foxglove | As a bonus action you may expend a charge to activate foxglove. While the brooch is in this form you may add your Charisma modifier to damage dealt by the vicious mockery spell. |
| Ilex | As a reaction when you are targeted by an attack you may expend 1 charge to impose disadvantage on that attack roll. |
| Lily | As a reaction when you make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration on a spell you may expend 1 charge to add your Charisma modifier to the result. |
| Orchid | As a reaction when you make a Constitution saving throw against poison or disease you may expend 1 charge to add your Charisma modifier to the result. |
| Poppy | When you cast the sleep spell you may expend any number of charges to select a number of creatures not exceeding your Charisma modifier. Those creatures are immune to the spell's effects. |
| Rose | As an action you may expend 4 charges to cast the suggestion spell. |
| Wolfsbane | On a critical hit you may expend any number of charges to add 1d4 poison damage per charge expended in this way. |
| Zephyranthes | As a reaction when an ally you can see within 30 feet of you fails an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check you may expend 1 charge to add your Charisma modifier to the result. |

Posted Aug 4, 2021I stick that label at the end of my brews to help my players know what's homebrew and what's not at a glance! ;) (Shortened form of Homebrew MellieDM!)

Posted Aug 5, 2021This is wonderful, but as a new DM and player, do you have a price guide or what level the player should be for this item?

Posted Aug 5, 2021I made this for a level 3 Bard in one of my games, and she's put it to good use for a couple levels now! I also played in a one-shot where another player used the item as a Level 7 Druid and she was able to make good use of her 4 charges.
I usually run games where magic items are difficult to purchase for gold (I love magical quest rewards!), but if I were pressed to do it in my game I'd price it around 1200—your mileage may vary!

Posted Aug 5, 2021Thank you for your answer! I have a level 4 (soon to be 5) sorcerer and druid that I think would enjoy this (they will have the battle out who gets it). I think I will have to find a way to drop this in next session.

Posted Aug 6, 2021Kind of odd to have it use the attuned creature's spellcasting ability. Most magic items just have a set DC.

Posted Sep 22, 2021I assume the duration is infinite, since activating an ability changes the shape of the brooch.
