Weapon (greatsword), artifact (requires attunement by a creature of non-good and non-evil alignment)

This powerful blade is primarily a transparent blue-green, like ice, trimmed and reinforced with silver and emanates an ethereal blue glow. While attuned to the sword, you gain the following benefits in addition to those the different forms share.

When a creature attunes to this sword, it changes form in order to adapt to the wielder and takes on additional qualities according to the that creature's alignment. Each form has a unique shape and personality. This form represents those of neutral alignment, where the Bright Form represents good alignment and the Shadow Form represents those of evil alignment.

Font of Power

The sword does not source its energy or power from the weave or any divine being. Instead, an obscure rift allows the item to source its own energy. Due to this property, it is unaffected by most effects intended to dispel magical properties, and can be used as a focus in order to cast spells in such an environment.

Magic Weapon

The Aegis Blade is a magic weapon that grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

Random Properties

The sword has 1 minor beneficial property and 1 major beneficial property, each determined by rolling on the properties tables in chapter 7 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Sentient

The Aegis Blade is sentient with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 20, and a Charisma of 18. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 60 ft. and truesight to a distance of 15 ft.

Each form of the sword has a personality of its own that speaks telepathically to its wielder. When attuned for long enough, the sword will manifest an ethereal humanoid form determined by the DM that is visible only to the wielder and nearby creatures chosen by the sword. Each personality has a desire to be fulfilled and will withhold the true power of the sword until they feel the wielder's intentions are aligned to theirs.

This form has no personality of its own, but instead adopts a more selfish version of the wielder's personality when they first come into contact. As such, the way to satisfy this blade is to fulfill one's own interests, and not to pursue change.

If you are forced to change alignment, or take enough actions to suggest a change in alignment, the blade will attempt to overcome you and possess your body. If you fail a DC 20 Charisma saving throw, it succeeds, and you become an NPC under the DM's control until they are banished using magic such as the dispel evil and good spell. On a success or after the personality is dispelled, the blade becomes inert and cannot be attuned to for a week.

True Neutral

You gain the effects of protection from evil and good.

Can't Touch This

After a short rest, the sword grants you a DC20 sanctuary that lasts until it is disabled by usual means.

Creature of Action

Adamant to pursue your goals, you can take one additional action on your turn once per long rest.

Curse

This sword is cursed, and it extends the curse to you upon attunement. As long as you remain cursed, you are unwilling to part with the sword, keeping it within reach at all times.

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
