The blade of Anatar, the Lord of Gifts. Anatar's blade is one unlike any seen in this world. As long as a greatsword, it's a single edged and curved blade with a circular guard, and a long grip that can accommodate two handed style of fighting. The design on the hilt is an intricate series of well kept leather and cloth that won't fray, split, or be altered in any way, seemingly enchanted to be frozen in its original condition. The blade, contrary to most swords of the time is not the polished steady steel color that most blades in the world are. Instead the blade has a design like there's layers and layers of steel that forms an almost feather looking pattern that you would find on a exotic bird. Anatar, the "Lord of Gifts" and the maker of the blade, forged it as a mighty gift to a once mighty king.
The blade is cursed by the one who created it to bind itself to the soul of its user. The bearer of the blade must always have it equipped, and while attuned to this weapon any attack with another weapon of any kind has disadvantage to the attack roll. When the blade is equipped, the user must make a DC10 wisdom saving throw when any damage is taken during combat. On a failed save, you must attack the creature that damaged you until it or you reaches 0 hit points, or until it becomes impossible to reach the creature to make a melee attack on it.
As the use of the blade and the power of the user grows, so too does the blade. The blade seems to feed on the soul of slain enemies. For every level gained after equipping and attuning the blade, the user may choose a rune to appear on the blade itself, formed by the layers of metal hone into it. The sword has 8 levels (levels acquired by milestone achievements). There are 8 rune slots available on the blade.
- Haste - Once per short rest you can gain an additional attack during your attack action. Lasts for a number of rounds equal to the number of runes on the blade. This rune may be added to the blade multiple times, the effect stacks for each number of haste runes added to the blade.
- Pain - Once per short rest you can add your proficiency bonus to your damage for a number of rounds equal to the number of runes on the blade. This rune may be added to the blade multiple times, the effect stacks for each number of pain runes added to the blade.
- Hunger - Once per short rest upon a successful melee attack with the blade the wielder can add a number of health back equal to the damage done in that attack. This rune can be gained multiple times, the effect stacks for each number of hunger runes added to the blade.
- Deflection - Once per short rest the user can add their proficiency bonus to their armor class for a number of rounds equal to the number of runes on the blade. This rune can be gained multiple times, the effect stacks for each number of deflection runes added to the blade.
- Sundering - Once per Long rest the user can declare a sundering attack, which removes all armor protection that isn't either Dex or Dodge based, as the weapon seems to cleave through their defenses like butter. This effect last for a single round for all attacks with this weapon.
- Devastation - Once per long rest the wielder can declare a single hit from it to be at maximum damage. This can only be used on critical attacks. Use is declared after a successful critical melee attack roll to hit. This rune can be gained multiple times, effect does not stack.
- Crippling - Once per Long rest the wielder gains the ability to use sneak damage as per the ability of a rogue. This does NOT stack with a rogues existing ability. The effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the number of runes upon the blade.
- Bleeding - Once per short rest the user of this blade may cause bleed damage equal to the users proficiency bonus. The bleeding lasts a number of rounds equal to the number of runes upon the blade.
- Inevitability - Once per long rest the user of this blade can overcome ANY form of resistance, immunity, invulnerability, damage reduction, or other protection from damage inflicted by the blade. This effect last for a single round for all attacks with this weapon.
- Seeking - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune to cause a single attack that would normally miss a creature to instead strike it. This rune can be gained multiple times.
- Sweeping - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune to make a grand sweeping attack against all adjacent enemies who are also adjacent to each other. Make single attack role and compare the total to the armor class of all enemies. This rune can be gained multiple times.
- Fire/Frost/Acid/Poison/Lightning ( pick one ) - Once per short rest the user can activate this rune and gain an elemental damage effect equal to their proficiency bonus. This lasts for all attacks during a single round. This rune can be gained multiple times, each time it can enable another user of the current element chosen or give access to a new element.
- Bonding - The user gains the ability to store the blade within their very soul. The user can call the blade forth from their soul as a bonus action and it appears in their hand. It requires a separate bonus action to once again store the blade
If the wielder rolls a natural 1 on any attack roll (and can't modify it with speacials, advantages, etc.) with this weapon the blade has a chance to shatter. After a roll of a 1, roll another d20, if this roll is also a 1 the blade shatters, releasing the power and souls stored within the blade. Everyone within 5' per # of runes on the blade takes damage equal to 4d6 times the number of runes with a Con save DC equal to 8 + user Str Bonus + user proficiency bonus dc for half damage. The user is immediately reduced to 0 hit points and dying ( they take no damage from the shattering itself ), as their soul is literally rent asunder by the power of the blade. Even if the user survives this terrible experience they will be forever haunted by the horrific damage to their soul.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
Notes: Proficiency: Greatsword, By a monk of The Way of the Kensei (item binds to the soul of the user and will not allow anyone else to wield it), Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
