Wondrous Item, common

A small stone device with a glass insert allowing for the transmission of written messages. These tablets have a form of Sending cast on them and as such have the same limitations as the spell. This variation allows the message to be written or "spoken" as the original spell with the push of a small button on the face of the tablet. The target of the message is no longer treated as "a creature with which you are familiar", instead the target is "a creature who possesses an Arcanotechnological Tablet, and has given you their tablet's id number." Messages sent by Arcanotechnological Tablet do not always reach their intended target, the 5% chance that a message will not be received applies to all message regardless of difference in plane of existence to the target. To determine if a message failed, the user of the Arcanotechnological Tablet which receives the message rolls 1d20. On a roll of 1, the message is lost.

Sending

You send a short message of twenty-five words or less to a creature with which you are familiar. The creature hears the message in its mind, recognizes you as the sender if it knows you, and can answer in a like manner immediately. The spell enables creatures with Intelligence scores of at least 1 to understand the meaning of your message.

You can send the message across any distance and even to other planes of existence, but if the target is on a different plane than you, there is a 5 percent chance that the message doesn't arrive.
