Alfirin the Fury of the First Born
Features
Description
Weapon (longbow), legendary (requires attunement)
Alfirin is an unassuming though slightly over-sized recurve bow made of strong dark wood. Its handle is wrapped in a very tight, dark brown-black leather with a golden-bronze metallic inlay for its arrow rest. When attuned the bow takes on one of four different aesthetics linked to the bearers emotions, each corresponding to one of the four seasons. Bounding joy for sping, contentment for autumn, anger for summer and sorrow for winter.
Every time the bow is attuned to a new owner it resets to its dormant state.
Dormant State
- The wielder gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
- Shifting Seasons. At the end of each short or long rest, you can align yourself with the magic of one season, regardless of the emotion that is dominating bearers personality. Over time, if the wielder is not already an eladrin, these changes will start to affect the one who is attuned to the bow as well.
- Enchanting Presence. Any non-eladrin creature of the wielders choice, that starts its turn within 30 feet of the wielder, must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature becomes overwhelmed by the radiating emotion and becomes charmed for 1 minute displaying either sorrow, fear, joy, or contentment, depending on the current state of the bow. On a successful save, the creature becomes immune to any Enchanting Presence for 24 hours. Whenever the enchanted creature takes damage, or at the end of each of its turns, the creature can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Awakened State
- The bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to a +2. Additionally when the wielder hits with an attack using this weapon, the target takes an additional 1d4 elemental damage depending on which of the four seasons is currently active.
- The DC of Enchanting Presence is increased to 15.
- The wielder also gains the ability to fire four special shots, one for each of the unique seasons. The shot selected coincides with the season the bow is in. This ability can only be used once per long rest.
- Autumn. When in this form the bonus elemental damage is changes to Psychic. When the wielder hits with an attack the can declare a Harvest shot. The target takes no damage, and is instead healed for 4d8 + the users Wisdom modifier.
- Winter. When in this form the bonus elemental damage is changes to cold. When the wielder hits with an attack they can declare a Ice shot. The target immediately takes 3d8 cold damage before a slick dark ice covers the ground in a 30-foot square centered on the target turning the area into difficult terrain for one minute. When the ice appears, each creature standing in its area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw DC 15 or fall prone. A creature that enters the area or ends its turn there must also succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or fall prone.
- Spring. When in this form the bonus elemental damage is changes to lightning. When the wielder hits with an attack they can declare a Bramble Shot. The target takes an additional 3d8 piercing damage, and they must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw or become restrained by the sprouting vines and branches that immediately grow from the arrow. The restrained target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
- Summer. When in this form the bonus elemental damage is changes to fire. When the wielder hits with an attack they can declare a Scorching Shot. A line of roaring flame streaks out behind your arrow, detonating on contact and hitting each creature in a 20 foot radius. Each must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 5d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
