Amulet of Sacrificial Absorption

Amulet made from a small critter splayed and pinned on a circular piece of wood, and held by a simple rough string. The animal seems to be still alive. 

Created by Orc shamans, this amulet protects its wearer from ambush with magical attacks, putting the attacker at a disadvantage and ready to experience a swift and terrible retribution.

If someone attacks the owner with a magic projectile, up to 4d8 points of magical damage are absorbed by the amulet which instantly destroys it.

The magic/projectile missile crackles through the air singeing/freezing the ground under it. As it approaches the orc it splits into smaller, and smaller projectiles arcing in tighter and tighter spirals towards of the target. They hit the orc in the chest, but the majority of magical fragments get sucked into the amulet. The small creature pinned to it blackens and turns to ash/ice shards.
