• On a critical hit, the target is hampered by shadows and its next attack roll is made at disadvantage.

When a character awakens Andunecel, apply the following changes to the item's traits:

• Increase the bonus to attack and damage rolls to a +2
• On a critical hit, you can cast the darkness spell from this weapon centered on the creature. While you are concentrating on the spell, you are not blinded by its effects.

Author's Note:
This magic item is known as a "Vestige of Divergence", a type of magic item found in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, which features the campaign setting used in Critical Role.

Proficiency with a Rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
