Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement)

This work bestows upon you the ability to use the spells within its pages. However, if you are not already able to use spells, you suffer one level of exhaustion that cannot be removed for as long as you are attuned to the book. A book of infinite spells contains 1d8 + 22 pages. The pages cannot be ripped out without destroying the book. Similarly, the spells cannot be copied into a spellbook—their magic is bound up permanently within the book itself.

Once per day you can cast the spell to which the book is opened without without expending a spell slot or providing any material components. Casting a spell by reading the book requires the spell’s normal casting time, and uses your spellcasting ability and spell save DC. If you don't normally have the ability to cast spells, for the purposes of casting spells from the book your spell save DC and spell attack modifier are calculated as follows:

Spell save DC = 8 + your Intelligence modifier
Spell attack modifier = your Intelligence modifier

You need not have the book on her person in order to use its power. The book can be stored in a place of safety while you adventure and still allow you to cast spells by means of its power.

Once a page is turned, it can never be flipped back—paging through a book of infinite spells is a one-way trip. If the book is closed, it always opens again to the page it was on before the book was closed. When the last page is turned, the book vanishes. Each time you cast a spell from the book, there is a chance that the energy connected with its use causes the page to magically turn despite all precautions. While attuned to the book, you know this and may even benefit from the turning by gaining access to a new spell. Each time you cast a spell using the book, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether a page turns. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. You have disadvantage on this check if the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast. On a failed check, the page turns.
