This cypress crossbow is adorned with engraved dogs chasing a deer whose horns pass into bow.
Sentience. The Artemis's Deer is a sentient neutral good weapon with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 18, and a Charisma of 16. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet. The sword can speak, read, and understand Common and Sylvan, and it can communicate with its wielder telepathically. Its has calm male voice. It knows every language you know while you’re attuned to it.
Personality. The crossbow wishes to reunite with Apollo's Muse more than anything, and counts as enemy those, who wishes to separate them. It likes anyone, who shows kind and compassionate to the wild nature and shows his/her mastery in hunt.
Dormant
The Artemis's Deer grants the following benefits in its dormant state:
- You can speak, read, and write Sylvan
- You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. Crossbow bolt fired from this weapon deals non-magical damage, if it wasn't magical before shooting.
- You gain advantage on attacks made with this weapon, if you can see a moon from the place you are standing at (if it's a new moon phase, you just have to be outside, in the darkness).
If you also attuned to Apollo's Muse, you gain the following benefit:
- You can perform a ritual to bound a quiver to crossbow. If you do so, bolts from this quiver magicaly appear in a crossbow, charged. You can ignore the Loading property, and you don't need a free hand to reload it, if bound quiver is no more than 10 feet from you. You can bound both Artemis's Deer and Apollo's Muse to the same quiver or different ones.
Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
Notes: Language: Sylvan, Bonus: Magic, Advantage: Ranged Attacks, Ignore Weapon Property: Loading, by the one, who wants to reunite it with Apollo's Muse, Ammunition, Light, Loading, Range, Vex

Posted May 11, 2020WOW! this sounds super cool to have.
Other things that you could add to make it more unique or funny would be to give it the any of these languages : Giant Elk, Giant Eagle, Giant Owl
All of them are real and not even druids can speak or understand them.
the one thing that stands out to me is that it doesn't do magic damage, unlike all other magic bows.
you also have one typo " The *sword * can speak,"

Posted May 11, 2020Thx, but I won't fix this mistake with "sword" till I make something new.
But about magic damage:
1) It has a sence, because you shoot a bolt, you do not hit with a crossbow
2) Look at EXALTED version. It's here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1642725-artemiss-deer-exalted
And it's second part -- Appollo's Muse: https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1643086-apollos-muse-exalted
Look at their's full potential. There is magic damage at "Awakened state"

Posted May 11, 2020These hand crossbows are cool.
I saw the bonus damage you were talking about, but against say, a were-wolf, all other magic bows and crowsbows deal magic damage and thus hurt a lycanthrope. I was just trying to make a comment about the disparity between the way the game runs magic weapons and what your weapon does. this is because it says EXTRA and not alters.
Normal : deals 1d6 magic piercing + Dex (3) modifier + 1d6 element type = 10 damage.
yours : deals 1d6 non-magical piercing + Dex (3) modifier + 1d6 element type = 3 damage to a lycanthrope or lich.
another weird thing is that it take s a bonus action to use an offhanded weapon after you take the full attack action. In order to get the most benefit out of these weapons combined, you have to spend 2 rounds prepping their enhancements before you can even shoot the second bow. (unless the same bonus action can be used for both weapons)
