"Mind over might."
—
Legend speaks of an ancient gold dragon who once walked the world. It was said he was the first of his kind. Aurix, the Magician was larger and more powerful than any of his kind. The rumors say a drop of his blood could level forests.
—
Aurix loved magic more than gold or jewels. He pursued the study of it, the protection of it, anything he could find. He became the most powerful archmage, but then one day he just disappeared. No one knows where he went or why he left. The only thing left behind by the dragon was a powerful wand.
—
While wielding the wand, you gain a +1 bonus to your spell attack and spell save DC. Aurix’s Gaze has 15 charges. You can use the wand to cast the following spells using your spell save DC and spellcasting ability:
—
At will: Identify, detect magic
3 charges: slow, fly, dispel magic
4 charges: fire shield, polymorph
5 charges: cloud kill
6 charges: globe of invulnerability
7 charges: delayed blast fireball
8 charges: maze
—
If you cast a concentration spell with the wand, the magic in the wand keeps the spell stable. However, it can only support one concentration spell at a time. Casting a new one immediately ends the previous one.
—
If all 15 charges are used, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand turns to solid gold in your hand and becomes nonmagical. There is nothing that can undo this.
📝Story Element📝
A peaceful village rests nestled amongst rolling green hills and tucked next to a babbling brook. Children run from between the houses, their mothers chasing after them. Laughter and joy are carried across the warm summer breeze.
—
Then the peace is broken by a robed man. He floats over the village, a twisted smile on his face. He raises his hands and mutters arcane words under his breath. A large burning boulder falls from the sky and slams into the village below. Laughter turning to screams and the breeze carrying only ash and death.
—
Flashes of numerous explosions play out in quick succession. The only thing left are corpses and pain. The vision shifts once more, and the robed figure is the last thing standing. Magic thrumming through his veins, his skin lit up from the inside. He raises his hands once more and everything goes black.
—
As the vision fades, tears begin falling from the dragon’s eyes. His mind still filled with images of death and destruction. “Is there no other way?” He looks over to the tall silver-haired goddess.
—
She shakes her head sadly. “Magic. They will always crave it and will do anything they can to get it. Aurix, you have too much magic. I hear it calling out to the Weave and in time they will hear it too. They will come and steal it away and the vision will come to pass. You must come with me, it is the only way.”
—
“I will go with you, but there are those who count on me. Let me leave them a gift, I cannot leave them with nothing.” After receiving the goddess’s approval Aurix moves over to his desk and places his wand on the worn wood. Turning back, he nods.
—
In less than a moment the room is empty. The only thing left behind, the wand.
