This item is a cheap but elegant looking amulet that hangs on a simple silver chain. The amulet itself is made out of multiple interwoven bands of brass in the shape of an oval. The amulet can open up to reveal a small chamber. The back of the amulet has an inscription formed into the metal.
“To my love, Alorum
That you may always find your way back to me.”
When an object is placed inside this chamber, the wearer is persistently aware of the direction towards the object's source. The sensation is a slight but easily ignored tugging on the stem of the skull in a specific direction. Some examples are below. The direction of the tug is a simple point to point pull, it does not notify the wearer of which route to take; only the Cartesian direction.
- If someone's hair is placed inside the amulet, the wearer will be of the direction that leads towards that specific person.
- If sand from a beach is placed inside the amulet, the wearer will be aware of the direction that leads towards that specific beach.
The tracking does not work if the target is behind 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, 3 feet of wood, or otherwise protected from divination magics. The magic doesn’t have to follow a straight line and can travel freely around corners or through openings.
