A shortsword blade attached to a pole handle, the naginata is more a pole arm than a sword. It is a slashing weapon with the properties versatile and finesse. It may be selected as a monk weapon, and characters with the polearm mastery feat may apply that feat while using this weapon.
While traditionally considered a women's weapon, the Naginata saw widespread use in the late Edo period of Japanese history by both genders.
In western campaigns, this weapon qualifies as exotic as well as simple.
Exotic weapons Each require an additional proficiency specific to the weapon separate from that granted by the broad categories of simple and martial.
You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
