The rod has 5 charges. While attuned to it, you can cast one of the following spells from it: Spare the Dying (expends 1 charge), Revivify (expends 3 charges) or Raise Dead (expends 5 charges).
The material components and casting times apply as if the spell was cast normally.
While holding this rod, you can use an action to release the electrical energy into the ground. This expends all charges, but is harmless as all the energy disperses into the ground.
The rod loses 1 charge at dawn as the stored energy dissipates.
Charging the rod
The rod can be charged using lightning spells of 3rd level or higher. The level of the spell determines how many charges it restores.
Level 3-4: 1 charge
Level 5-6: 3 charges
Level 7-9: 5 charges
When you take damage from a spell of 3rd level or higher which deals lightning damage, you can use your reaction to absorb the energy of the spell into the rod halving the damage you take. This charges the rod based on the level of the spell as described above.
Power surge
Every time the rod is charged there is a cumulative 10% change of causing a power surge. If the rod is charged to more than full capacity this chance increases by 20%. This chance resets at dawn.
If a power surge occurs, each creature in a 15ft radius must make a DC 16 dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 10d10 lightning damage. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. Constructs made from metal and creatures in metal armor make the save at disadvantage. The rod ceases to function until it is repaired.
Repairing the rod
To repair the rod after over charging you must make a successful DC 23 Tinker’s Tools check. Attempting to repair the rod requires 1000 gp of rare conductive materials which are consumed by the process even if the attempt was unsuccessful.
