This small rod is made of strange but durable material and is filled with a glowing liquid. Shaking the liquid has no effect, but is soothing. Those with a fondness for reading late at night enjoy having one of these handy, as it makes it easier to see the books up close without being too bright.
This rod constantly sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius. This light can be suppressed by magical darkness or by an effect that suppresses magic, but it will return when any magic suppressing it is removed. While it is emitting light, you gain a +1 to your spell attack rolls and the saving throw DCs of your spells.
You do not suffer disadvantage on attack rolls made to cast ranged spells against a target in melee with you as long as that target is fully visible within the rod’s radius of light.
This rod has 3 charges. As a bonus action, you can expend one charge to bend the rod, causing it to emit a cracking sound and its light to increase to 5 feet of bright light and 5 feet of dim light for the next minute. As a standard action, you can expend 2 charges to cast dispel magic at 3rd level, but you may only use it to dispel magical darkness that is suppressing the rod’s light.
The rod regains 1 charge every morning at dawn. If you use the last charge, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, the rod erupts, dealing 1d6 radiant damage to every creature in a 10 foot radius, and casting the daylight spell. This destroys the rod.
Notes: spellcaster, Exploration, Combat
The +1 to your spell attack rolls and spell save DCs isn't being applied.
I made this item ages ago, before a lot of functionality was added to the homebrew creation process. I'm glad you enjoy the item! I've made an updated version that I hope fixes the issue.
