Adamantine is an incredible alloy of adamant and other metals. It shines brilliant white with a purple sheen in sunlight, but is jet black in the dark. Adamant being an ultra-rare ore found only in meteorites or in tiny amounts deep in the Underdark, Adamantine is itself even rarer. Adamantine has the unprecendented cabability to be light, whilst being the strongest material in the universe, resulting in weapons and armour that are unbeatable.
The process for refining the brittle adamant ore into adamantine, the greatest metal ever created, is a well kept secret, and nearly impossible to perform even by the greatest of master smiths.
Adamantine is extremely difficult to produce, requiring unbelievably high forging temperatures of over 1700°C, and a very delicate melding procedure that can take months to produce even one ingot.
The recipe to make adamantine is secret and unknown to almost all. As an alloy, it is composed of four parts steel, three parts adamant, two parts Mithral, and one part silver. The metals are mixed together while molten, and then once cast, are beaten into shape and folded on itself 12 times, resulting in the carbon being evenly distributed and any impurities removed.
The forging process involves sophisticated techniques throughout, with even one tiny mistake in the process resulting in the entire metal becoming unusable junk.
Most smiths that specialise in producing adamantine are dwarves, particularly those from the ancient kingdom of Ammarindar.
Adamantine ingots can kept in storage until needed, for example to be reheated and beaten into a new shape, such as a sword blade or set of plate armor.
