This crossbow seems to have been wrought from a single piece of some extremely reflective silvery metal, save for its bowstring, which is a beam of spectral blue light.
The crossbow fires bolts of shimmering blue-violet force that veer away from their targets. The wielder receives a +1 bonus on ranged attack rolls with this weapon. On any attack that meets or exceeds its target’s Armor Class, this crossbow misses—the bolt harmlessly dissipates as it connects with the target. However, on any attack that misses by 5 or less, the bolt explodes, dealing 2d4+1 force damage to the target. If the attack misses its target’s Armor Class by exactly 1, it is a critical hit, dealing 4d4+2 force damage.
The wielder does not add his or her Dexterity modifier to damage on attacks with this crossbow.
Proficiency with a Light Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
Notes: Ammunition, Loading, Range, Two-Handed, Slow

Posted May 21, 2020Thanks! The party in my campaign ended up selling it (I dispense a *lot* of unique and powerful magic items in my game, so not unexpected). But! Before they did, it was really interesting. When using it, the archer would always close their eyes when firing, being effectively blind to get disadvantage on the attack roll. I hadn't anticipated that, but I thought it was a really creative and effective deployment of this crossbow's power.
