This item comes in various types, as shown in the table below. While you wear this item, your listed ability score is 12, if it isn’t higher already.

Variant: Of Adequate Ability - The item potentially adjusts your ability score to 10 instead of 12. This decreases the rarity by one category.

Variant: Of Capable Ability - The item potentially adjusts your ability score to 14 instead of 12. This increases the rarity by one category.

Variant: Cursed - Some items of competent ability are cursed. Becoming attuned to a cursed item extends the curse to you. As long as you remain cursed, your ability score associated with this item is 8, if it wasn’t lower already.
