Weapon (halberd), legendary (requires attunement)
"Legends told in hushed whispers speak of Death, an insane Blood Hunter, drunk on the dark boons of the Hunter's Bane. It is said his thirst for blood and death knew no bounds, and he would cut a bloody swath through the land on his never-ending quest to satisfy it. Fortunately, his ire was turned solely towards the darkness of the world; demons, monsters, and practitioners of the darkest magics. However, his malice unnerved the other Blood Hunters of the land, who feared his addiction to his power would eventually turn him against the innocents they had sworn to protect.
A cabal of Blood Hunters was gathered to put an end to his rampage, before he could become one of the very monsters he sought to slay. On that day, no less than twenty Blood Hunters were killed to defeat the madman, including Death himself.
His legendary weapon, Absolver, was thought to be destroyed in the conflict. Until recently..."

Absolver is a heavy scythe whose blade is forged of an otherwordly alloy, and engraved with esoteric hemocraft runes. It hungers for the blood of its master's enemies.

Harbinger

Your blood, for theirs. When you land an attack with Absolver, you can add an additional 1d10 slashing damage to your damage roll. However, upon making the attack, you suffer necrotic damage equal to the total value of damage dealt to the creature you attack. If this feature reduces your hit points to 0, you fall unconscious, but you do not die.

The Wages of Death

When the engraved hemocraft runes taste blood, Absolver grows in power. Upon landing a killing blow on a creature using Absolver, you strengthen the Harbinger feature by adding an additional 1d10 to the damage value. This effect can stack. If you fall unconscious, die, or do not use Harbinger within one day after gaining the first stack, all the acquired stacks fade away.

Storage Mode

Absolver can fold in on itself to become a more compact, but still heavy, curved longsword for (slightly) easier storage. It will require a custom-made scabbard.

Proficiency with a Halberd allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
