This cursed amulet has been magically imbued with the partial essence of a mimic, and has 8 charges.
As an action, the holder can expend 1 charge to transform into a harmless looking treasure chest, as though by means of the Polymorph. Returning to your regular form requires no action. If a creature tries to "open" you while disguised as a chest, you have advantage on your next attack against them.
After 4 transformations, the wearer needs to roll a charisma check (DC 12) when they try to turn back. If that fails, they stay a chest for 1d4 hours.
After 4 more transformations (8 total), they turn into a chest permanently, or until the curse is dispelled by Remove Curse or Greater Restoration or a similar spell.
The transformation count stays persistent until someone becomes a mimic, then it resets to 8.
