This item is a lightly tinted lavender crystal on a copper chain that can be worn as a pendant. It is activated by tapping the crystal three times and saying "Find for me...", followed by the worded information request. The attuned user holds the chain letting the Crystal swing freely, and If the desired information is within 100 feet of the Crystal, the Crystal will pull in that direction, leaning out on its chain. The Crystal will only find information in various types of reference materials, and will not find objects, creatures, magic items, spells or other phenomenon. The Crystal will indicate a direction through an active (but not inactive) portal if the cumulative distance through the portal meets its 100 foot requirement, even if the portal is not large enough for the wielding creature to pass through. The Crystal is unable to penetrate (and thus unable to detect within) areas of Anti-Magic or through any magic that blocks scrying specifically, though it can find an alternate path to such knowledge provided it is not enclosed within such constraints.
When activated, the crystal navigates fields of fate to save time locating important information in a Library or other location efficiently, if the library has the necessary info. The Crystal can only look for answers on one subject at a time, and the subject must be phrased in one sentence of 15 words or less after the "Find for me" activation phrase. For example: "Find for me information on Ancient Black Dragons native to this region now or in the past" which would count as 13 words. The source of information can be anything from a book, to scrolls, to a plaque on a statue if it provides the best information as per the request of it's activation. This Crystal will not find a person who has the knowledge.
If the information is not within 100 feet of the Crystal when asked, it will continue to search for it in all written, recorded or documented sources as it is moved by it's Attuned wielder.
The Crystal glows red if no such information exists within 100 feet. When appropriate material is detected the crystal begins to lean toward it on the end of it's chain as if gravity is shifting to point gently in the correct direction leading it's wielder toward the requested text or other source at a speed of no faster than a Speed of 15. Attempting to move faster requires a Constitution check to maintain Concentration. The color shifts to yellow (at 50 feet) and eventually green (at 10 feet) as the wielder gets closer to the best information on the subject as per the request. The crystal also lightly chimes if it's current request for information comes into a range of one foot, and then chimes again if touched to the appropriate source material and then stops glowing when the source of the information is touched. The Crystal will stop chiming upon Concentration to stop the audible alert by its Attuned user.
If the wielder is injured during the process, the wielder must make a Concentration check to maintain the search. Loss of concentration or an Action to deactivate the Crystal can end it's search early. The Crystal may be activated once per long rest, and activation lasts for one hour.
Detect Magic vs: Divination and Enchantment magic emanates from the Crystal.
Lore: Some say the first such Crystal was created by a powerful Cleric of Oghma. Others suggest it was a tool made by Wizards to make the most out of a trip to Candlekeep.
Notes: Spellcaster, Detection, divination, enchantment
