Weapon (longbow), rare (requires attunement)

This bow is formed of wood lacquered in smooth sea-green that never seems to fade and decorated here and there with carvings that could be fish scales or perhaps stylized seaweed.  Its limbs are inscribed with words in ancient elvish:

Nye'Aleanthas - Eirquis Baelath'sha.  It means, "I am Aleanthas - the Sailor's Battlecry."

... or so a lesser scholar might have you believe.  Translated literally, "Aleanthas" means "Sailor's Harp," while the rest of the phrase approximates something like, "Sharp-chant of the Ocean Guardian."   Elvish minstrels of the age Aleanthas was made in used harps mostly for ballads of satire and to punctuate mocking jests in comedic routines; "harp," therefore, could also refer to someone's mocking tone or foul mouth.  Eirquis, or "sharp-chant," is an old elvish idiom not used in millennia for, "comeback," or, "rejoining insult," and Baelath'sha is a word for sailor denoting one meant and trained for war.  The inscription, taken as a whole and in context, carries a meaning more along the lines of, "I am the war-sailor's foul mouth and here's what we think of you!"

When drawn, Aleanthas whispers other phrases in elvish just as old.  To modern ears they may sound like graceful lines of poetry but are not so nice as they seem.  For example, the bow might say, "Aelthasha feandaras alath caeloran," which translates literally to, "Like unto a hind in green grass do I find thee."  Taken in context of the time it was spoken, this phrase more or less equates to, "Gotcha, sucker!"

Aleanthas was recovered by the bounty hunter Malcom Kinblade, who restrung Aleanthas with the lute-strings of a legendary Aasimar bard named Belword.  This new bowstring projects the energy of Belword's soul across the veil of death and time to imbue the arrows it fires with righteous power.  To honor this, Malcom gave his bow a new name: the Arrowsmith.

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with Aleanthas, and its arrows deal an additional 1d4 radiant damage.  As a sailor's weapon, its natural buoyancy was magically enhanced and grants you advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks to swim.

Proficiency with a Longbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
